Adrenaline pumping through every vein,
Heart pounding but causing no pain,
Palms clenched, knuckles white,
Fingers crossed, tonight’s the night.
Ears tuned in to just one sound,
Any other noise is turned right down,
Eyes focused, completely mesmerised,
Blood pressure surging, starting to rise.
They choose the same numbers every time,
Marked off carefully on the right line,
With a chance in a million, many do play,
Hoping and praying it will go their way.
Lives could change, dreams may come true,
But many will be left feeling so blue,
The national lottery, played twice a week,
'In it to win it', wealth they do seek.
Heart pounding but causing no pain,
Palms clenched, knuckles white,
Fingers crossed, tonight’s the night.
Ears tuned in to just one sound,
Any other noise is turned right down,
Eyes focused, completely mesmerised,
Blood pressure surging, starting to rise.
They choose the same numbers every time,
Marked off carefully on the right line,
With a chance in a million, many do play,
Hoping and praying it will go their way.
Lives could change, dreams may come true,
But many will be left feeling so blue,
The national lottery, played twice a week,
'In it to win it', wealth they do seek.

Stacey - First of all, you've hit the ball out of the park to clone an old American phrase. This poem is terrific. We don't play the lottery because I have a hard time justifying spending money that we most definitely need elsewhere and I'm sure that when God said work or don't eat he didn't mean pulling money out of your billfold.
Secondly - thanks for visiting my blog and giving me the advice. I'll sure be giving it a try. If you come up with anything else, let me know.
Thanks again, stay dry and God bless,
Mimmy
A very entertaining read!
Thanks so much for your comment, Stacey. If any of my posts are helpful to other poets, then I've done some good.
It's nice to see you writing again! Keep writing; and I see you haven't lost your touch. You must have heard the news - of the rancher from Winner. Great story. Maybe this guy will manage his winnings wisely.
The right number, when they choose it,
Most of the them promptly lose it.
: )
Very clever!
:-)
You got both brain
and creativity!
Great poem!!!

Stacey, Sorry I haven't been around much.
I just noticed this new post and am glad
that you're posting again.
You certainly know how to deliver a punch
line. Had me fooled.
I had to chuckle at this one Stacey, it's the same the world over. I think I might feel that way if I had all the winning numbers!! LOL
Great poem and you got it perfect for some.. :)
Wonderful. Serves a great purpose in reminding us not to spend money in foolish ways. thanks for sharing, Stacey.
Thank you for your last visit to my blog. Your comment means a great deal to me and I'm sure I will read it over and over again. It is nice to know that someone does understand the therapeutic value of blogging. Hope you have a terrific weekend.

This is very well written, I am new to this blogging thing so come and visit sometime and give some pointers
To spend a life hoping for a future that you didn't earn is a sad commentary on the human condition.
But a nicely-put poem about the attempt for a secure life, moneywise!!
Just stopped by to say hi.
Hi Stacey,
Wonderful concept and awesome verbiage to express the same!
Regards,
Dimple
